At the Chiropractic Center of Orange, we specialize in advanced spinal decompression therapy, a gentle, non-invasive solution for individuals suffering from:

• Herniated or Bulging Discs: Occur when a spinal disc pushes out of place or ruptures, putting pressure on nearby nerves and causing back pain, numbness, or weakness.

• Sciatica (Leg Pain): Nerve pain that travels from the lower back down the leg when the sciatic nerve becomes irritated or compressed.

• Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD): A condition where spinal discs gradually wear down over time, leading to stiffness, reduced flexibility, and chronic back pain.

• Spinal Stenosis: Narrowing of the spinal canal that places pressure on the spinal cord or nerves, often causing pain, numbness, or difficulty walking.

• Pinched Nerves: Occur when surrounding tissues such as bones, discs, or muscles compress a nerve, leading to pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness.

• Post-Surgical Back Pain: Persistent or recurring pain after spinal surgery, which may result from scar tissue, nerve irritation, or ongoing spinal instability.

Does Spinal Decompression Therapy Really Work?

Yes — and the results are compelling.

A pilot study conducted by Dr. John Leslie of The Mayo Clinic evaluated the effectiveness of the DRX9000 spinal decompression system, developed by Axiom Worldwide. The study, presented at the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists annual meeting in December 2007, focused on patients suffering from chronic lower back pain for an average of 10 years.

Key Findings:

• 50% reduction in pain reported after just two weeks of treatment

• 88.9% overall success rate after completing a six-week program

• Participants noted a significant improvement in mobility, comfort, and quality of life

These results suggest that spinal decompression therapy, particularly using advanced systems like the DRX9000, can be a highly effective and non-invasive solution for chronic back pain — especially when other treatments have failed.

How Does Spinal Decompression Work?

Spinal decompression therapy utilizes a specialized traction table to gently stretch the spine, creating negative pressure within the spinal discs. This process:

• Encourages retraction of herniated or bulging discs

• Reduces pressure on spinal nerves

• Promotes the influx of oxygen, water, and nutrient-rich fluids into the discs

• Facilitates the body's natural healing processes

What to Expect During Treatment

• Duration: Each session lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

• Frequency: A standard treatment plan includes 12 to 20 sessions over 4 to 6 weeks.

• Procedure: You'll lie fully clothed on a motorized table, secured with a comfortable harness. The table gently stretches your spine according to a personalized protocol.

• Complementary Therapies: Depending on your condition, additional treatments such as massage therapy, rehabilitative exercises, or chiropractic adjustments may be recommended to enhance results.

What Is the Typical Treatment Protocol?

A standard spinal decompression treatment plan usually involves 12–20 sessions over four to six weeks. Some conditions may need fewer sessions, while others might need more. Many patients start feeling relief after the first few sessions, and most experience significant pain reduction by the end of the treatment program.
